Irate NDC supporters threaten to burn DCE’s car

Irate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Gushegu have besieged the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in Tamale in protest of the retention of the Gushegu District Chief Executive (DCE), Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini.

Chanting war songs, they threatened to burn down the DCE’s car should he come out of the residency where a crunch meeting of the regional party executive, the regional minister and his deputy as well as factions in the dispute was being held.

Spokesperson for the group, Halid Sugrigam, said the DCE’s continuous stay in office is a threat as he is accused of falling out with the party’s hierarchy.

“We have realised that the presence of the DCE in the constituency will lead to the party’s chances in the future being threatened.

We cannot imagine a leader who will not unite people, but rather create divisions [in the party],” he said.

But Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Omar Issifu Farouk, told Joy News the two factions in the party have resolved the matter and urged members of the party to let cool heads prevail.
