Investigate Anthony Karbo– Clement Apaak

The Forum for Governance and Justice has barked calls for immediate action to be taken against the former National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abaayifa Karbo, for allegedly plotting to destabilise the 2012 elections.

Dr Clement Apaak, convener of the group, in an interview with an Accra based radio station said: “We have had the chance to listen to the tape and we have also seen the transcript. We are particularly worried because he also made references to the need to attack not just certain State security apparatus, but also to frame officers of the Electoral Commission, as well as some brigadiers of Ewe origin.”

“This is perhaps the most diabolic tape that the forum has come across when we compare the calls that we have made for investigations to be made into those that came out attributed to Yaw Boateng Gyan of the NDC [National Democratic Congress] and most recently by Maxwell Jumah [a member of the NPP]. This is even more dangerous than any of the ones that we have come across,” he said.

According to Dr. Apaak, it is very worrying because “when you are working towards an election that most observers believe it’s going to be very competitive and you have some of the players suspected to be making this sort of statement, it indicates that some competitors will not stop at anything to destabilise the system to become victorious.”

“I think one of the ways to put an end to this is to encourage our security apparatus, particularly they CID [Criminal Investigations Department] to procure software and to get expertise in terms of voice recognition so that once and for all we will have the capacity to authenticate these types of tapes so that we can properly hold those who made these disturbing pronouncement accountable and also exonerate those who feel that they may have been framed.”
