Accra, May 1, GNA-The incumbent MP, Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, an aspirant for the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Odododiodioo constituency was the only contestant to interact with delegates who would select the candidate.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the Constituency Secretary, Mr Nii Otu Otoo, said the purpose of the forum was to test the confidence level of the aspirants to see how prepared they were to lead the people when given the nod.
The two other contestants, Mr Walid Anyetei Laryea a former Youth Organiser and Mr Benjamin Okai, an ex-constituency vice chairman failed to turn up even though they had been duly invited to the forum. Mr Benjamin Okai did not attend another forum organized for them last week because of bereavement.
The Constituency Chairman, Mr Daniel Nii Okai, speaking at the forum dubbed: “Meet your Aspirants” explained that, apart from the formal invitation, he contacted them on phone and said even though he could not get the former Constituency Vice Chairman, he was surprised that the two did not attend.
Mr. Tackie Komme told the gathering that it was not true that he kicked against anyone being presented twice to represent the people and said he should be returned to Parliament for the second time now that he had gained the experience to serve them better.
He called on the people to discuss issues and said, “I am your servant and will continue to serve you. I am a servant of the NDC and Professor Atta Mills, the Presidential candidate of the Party, who has promised to reward you through me when you give me the nod”, the MP stated.
During question time, the Constituency Chairman explained that even though the vetting of the three aspirants was video taped the Greater Accra Regional Executives of the NDC were yet to release the video clip to be screened for the people to see how they fared individually to help the delegates to make informed decisions.
The MP enumerated the number of projects he executed in the area, especially in the provision of educational infrastructure, which benefited most of the people through human resource development for the future.
Nii Tackie Komme expressed the hope that, the Usher Fort restoration project would create jobs for the people and said he was in contact with a number of non-governmental organizations to assist the people with micro-finance to start or expand their businesses in order to employ others.
He advised the youth to be humble, disciplined and to learn from their elders.
Mr Daniel Okai explained to the people that the National Executive Committee of the Party would set a period and the constituency executives would fix a date for the delegates’ conference to select the Parliamentary Candidate to contest the December general elections on the ticket of the NDC.
