Incestuous father’s plea annoys judge

A 40-year-old businessman, Kwame Ofori, is on police record to have hoodwinked his 15-year-old daughter into believing that it is not a crime for a father to sleep with his biological kid.

Ofori, a divorcee, who reportedly told his daughter that “such matters are always shown on TV,” is consequently facing charges of defilement and incest before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.

Ofori’s plea of not guilty to the charges caused the Presiding Judge of the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court, Mr Yaw Atta Sampong, to remand him in prison custody to appear again before him at a later date.

Inspector Isaac Amon informed the court that on December 31, 2013, Ofori sent his daughter to buy him food from town.

On her return, the accused offered her an opened bottle of Coca Cola to drink but immediately after drinking it she fell asleep, the prosecutor further stated.

Inspector Amon said that Ofori then carried her daughter onto his bed and sexually abused her and then warned her not to inform anybody about it.

“He further deceived her that it was not an offence for a father to sleep with his biological daughter as such matters were always shown on television,” the prosecutor stated further.

Inspector Amon said the victim, however, informed her mother, Rose Gomashie, who lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Swedru Divisional Police Command that led to Ofori’s arrest.
