Inability to fire incompetent officials could ruin Mahama – IMANI boss

The President of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe, has warned President John Mahama that time is running out for him to leave a legacy as leader.

He said Mr Mahama’s unwillingness to fire non-performing members of his government, opting to rather reassign such officials, could lead to his ruin.

The president of the policy think tank made these comments when he appeared on Closing Bell on Class91.3FM on Wednesday May 4, 2016.

“God knows the president is having a huge challenge with some of his appointees. I know that for a fact that he is having challenges. He seems to be too good a man and so he doesn’t seem to be wanting to fire people; he likes to reorder them. But that may be his undoing,” Mr Cudjoe told host Roderick Nii-Lante Wellington.

According to him, in the event that the president wins November’s poll, he should take the tough decision of firing misfits in his administration and pursue policies that would leave a lasting impression on Ghanaians.

“If he (the president) ever gets elected again, I am putting it to him that it is his last term; he should leave a legacy, fire anybody he thinks in that way. But it shouldn’t be the case. He should have been interested in his legacy from day one. And I suspect that when we have that kind of attitude towards governance, I am sure we will move further. It’s not about not listening. I am sure the president knows. He listens, he’s told me before. He does listen, he knows everything we say, but the challenge obviously is with the pair of hands he has.”
