Illegal miner drowns in abandoned pit

Adobewura (Ash), Sept. 5, GNA – A 19-year old illegal miner, Emmanuel Agyei, of Adobewura in the Atwima-Mponua District, at the weekend drowned in an abandoned pit. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ernest Fosu, who confirmed the incident to the GNA, said he had gone with four others to dig for gold when he slipped and fell into the pit. He said the suspected leader of the gang, Yaw Opoku, has been arrested and is helping the police in their investigations. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
