I’ll restore Ghana to the culture of hard work – Agyepong

Donkorkrom (E/R), June 21, GNA – Mr Kwabena Agyepong, a Presidential hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to restore Ghana to the culture of hard work if given the mandate to lead the country in the 2008 poll.

“We need to put ourselves on a war-footing, working around the clock seven days a week and 24 hours a day, changing attitudes and putting our people back in productive work.”

Mr Agyepong, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the end of his one-week campaign tour of the Eastern Region to canvass for votes to win his party’s Presidential primaries, said it was important to have a renewed sense of urgency, passion, vigour and vitality to enable the country rise up to the challenges of the “fast-paced, rapidly changing and a technologically advanced world.”

The visit, his second to the region, took him to all the 28 constituencies including Upper Manya, Fanteakwa, Oda, Kyebi and the Afram Plains.

Asked about his chances in the crowded Presidential race, Mr Agyepong said he was confident of victory. The groundswell of support that his campaign has received from party executives around the country, he said, has encouraged him to work even harder for success.

“The tour has revealed to me a strong desire from the rank and file of the party for a new generation of leadership.”

He praised the executives of the party at the constituency and polling station level for their dedication, sacrifice and valour and said they should sustain the tradition to return the NPP to power in the 2008 general elections. 21 June 2007
