IGP ordered to probe Kofi Portuphy’s allegations over Lapaz shooting

The Inspector General of Police, and the State security agency, National Security have been urged to invite the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Portuphy in for questioning

This call on the IGP follows the NDC chairman’s allegations that militant goons affiliated with the New Patriotic Party are responsible for the shooting incident at Lapaz last week.

At the NDC press conference on Thursday, July 20, Kofi Portuphy said his party had received ‘credible intelligence’ that many of the armed robbery and shooting incidents that have caused police officers to lose their lives, are due to the activities of the NPP-affiliated groups.

He lamented that under Akufo-Addo’s administration, the peaceful Ghana that was left for them by the previous government has now turned into a ‘pool of blood.’ However, the NPP has come out to debunk these claims, stating if Kofi Portuphy has any such information, he should be helping the police with their investigations.

Speaking to Kasapa FM, the Acting Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Adomako Baafi said: “He’s claiming that the NPP is behind the killing of the policeman, if he’s a law abiding person he should not even wait for the police to invite him, he should volunteer this information to the security agency.”

Mr. Baafi opined, that since Mr. Portuphy has alleged to have information on the whereabouts of the armed robbers he should be invited in by the IGP to help with the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu has said Kofi Portuphy is spreading wild allegations about the Akufo-Addo administration to turn the attentions of his party members to him.

The NPP secretary stated that the NDC chairman had no business criticizing the NPP and its affiliates, urging Ghanaians to ignore Portuphy’s statements.
