Tumu, Nov. 8, GNA – Mr Patrick K Acheampong, Inspector General of Police on Tuesday ended his four-day working visit to the Upper West Region with the announcement of the creation of three police divisional areas in the Region.
He named the new divisions as Wa, Lawra and Tumu.
The IGP said with the creation of the divisional areas, more police stations and posts would be opened in communities with large populations to facilitate the maintenance of peace, law and order. During the visit, the police chief toured police stations and posts in the Region and interacted with the personnel.
He said the Jirapa police jurisdiction, which was under the Lawra police district was now a police district on its own and that a district commander would soon be posted there to assume duty.
The police boss also inspected a number projects being undertaken by some of the district assemblies and the communities in the Region for the Police Service.
The projects included police posts and residential accommodation. He has since left Tumu for Bolgatanga on a working visit to the Upper East Region.
