Sekondi July 6, GNA – Mr Patrick Acheampong, Inspector General of Police, on Thursday said a Regional Police Training School would be established in Takoradi before the end of the year. He was speaking during a courtesy call on Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, at the start of a six-day duty tour of the Region at Sekondi.
Mr Acheampong said the school would train fresh recruits as well as police personnel mostly from the Region.
He said buildings and facilities for the school have been identified adding that the school would help address shortfall in the numbers of police personnel in the Region and the country as a whole. He urged district assemblies to assist the Police Administration to provide residential and office accommodation for police personnel in their areas.
Mr Acheampong said the lack of residential and office accommodation for personnel was one of the teething problems facing the Police Service.
He said the Service would readily provide personnel to areas that construct police stations.
Mr Amoah said the Regional Coordinating Council would provide every assistance to make the proposed Police Training School a reality. He said more Policemen were needed to maintain law and order because of threat of conflicts arising particularly from chieftaincy litigation and galamsey.
