IEA to review dates of presidential debates

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is to review the dates of the two presidential debates following the decision of the Electoral Commission to accept presidential and parliamentary nominations on October 16-17.

A statement issued by IEA in Accra on Tuesday said the new dates for the Northern and Southern sector debates would be fixed in consultation with the participating political parties. It said following a meeting on Monday by the presidential debates committee, the moderators appeared for a briefing on the committee’s work so far, the debates and their roles.

The statement said the moderators also made their inputs and brought their perspectives to bear on the draft programme evolved by the committee.

It said the committee decided to intersperse the debate with 30-second, pre-recorded peace messages from various dignitaries and show video footage depicting the after effects of the electoral strife.
