Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyepong, is in a fit of rage at the decision by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to compel the Minority in Parliament to boycott the vetting of presidential nominees for ministerial positions saying the party missed a fine opportunity to expose the “criminal” activities of some of the nominees.
The outspoken MP insist the decision was not carefully thought-through since the NPP could have used the occasion to provide evidence about allegations of malfeasance leveled against the appointees.
According to him, certain ministerial appointees are cloaked with forgery deals and this was a golden opportunity to let the public know of their nefarious activities.
Pushed to the wall by the host of Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia show to name some of the alleged corrupt government officials, the NPP firebrand quickly mentioned Mr. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah (Minister of Youth and Sports) and Haruna Iddrisu (Minister of Trade and Industry).
“I wanted to give Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah a showdown if I had been in the country. He has been speaking on Radio Gold inquiring on air how I made my fortunes. He accused me of making my wealth through cocaine and I was prepared to expose him if I had been given the chance. I would have come with witnesses to testify against him that he bought a house at East Legon. He put huge sums of monies in a bag and purchased a house at East Legon.”
“I am peeved they (NEC) have allowed these ministers off the hook. I would have grilled them and shown them where power lies. We have given them the leeway.”
Hypocrisy
“As for Haruna Iddrisu, I know rotten deals he worked on at the communication ministry. I also know the grounds upon which Fidelity Bank rejected huge cash he wanted to save at their institution”, he alleged.
The Assin Central MP then turned his blazing guns on his own party’s NEC accusing them of hypocrisy and allowing President Mahama to be inaugurated as president whilst trying to undermine the powers of his chosen team of ministers.
“The National Executive’s decision that the Minority boycott the vetting process has not helped the party at all and it is the truth. No one can cause me any harm for stating my position on the matter and that is my truth”, he said.
