I never ‘fired’ Rawlings – Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has denied publications suggesting that he (Koku Anyidoho) “fired” back at former President Jerry Rawlings for saying greed and corruption caused the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 elections.

The New Crusading Guide Newspaper owned by veteran journalist, Kweku Baako Junior, on Tuesday June 6, 2017, published a story on its front page titled “OPEN FIGHT IN NDC….ANYIDOHO FIRES RAWLINGS.”

The story among others sought to create the impression that Koku Anyidoho was angry at the Founder of the NDC for suggesting that the NDC, led by former President Mahama lost the 2016 elections due to “massive” corruption and greed within the party.

However, speaking Tuesday on the Gold Power Drive with Samuel Eshun, Koku Anyidoho said the story was false and that he “never said those words” published by the New Crusading Guide Newspaper.

He described the publication as mischief and said the paper published the story to divert attention of Ghanaians from the “incompetent” administration of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He urged the public especially NDC sympathizers to disregard the New Crusading Guide publication.

Koku Anyidoho further stated that he fully supports calls made by the former President for the party to go back to the very core values and principles that established it.

He admitted that in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections, the NDC lost track of its values which are probity, transparency and accountability.

“We need to go back to the basics,” Koku Anyidoho counseled.
