I met Gh¢89 in NPP’s account – Afoko

Suspended national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko has revealed his administration met a paltry Gh¢89 in the official account of the main opposition party.

Speaking to the Africa Watch magazine, the embattled national chairman said he was axed because he had wanted to bring a lot of reforms to the party, especially the way its finances were being run.

He alleged that individuals loyal to the party’s flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were running parallel accounts which were not accounted for. For instance, he claimed at a time the party’s official account was being depleted a separate account had about $48,000.

Afoko, who was suspended alongside the general secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe, a national vice chairperson, said Akufo-Addo failed to back him hence the acrimony which grew between him and the national executives of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

Afoko and his allies were suspended for working against the fortunes of the party ahead of the 2016 elections. The trio are in court challenging their suspension.
