A 32-year-old man who was assaulted by his girlfriend in a viral video says he refused to fight back because he feared spending the entire weekend in police custody if the confrontation escalated.
Ebenezer Karikari, a band member at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region, said he was attacked by his girlfriend, Nana Yaa, who used her hands, slippers and even a piece of concrete block on him.
Speaking to Crime Check, he explained that the incident began after he asked her to collect a phone on credit from one of his friends because she had complained that hers was faulty.
According to him, Nana Yaa travelled from Tepa, where she works as a vendor at a galamsey site, to meet his friend but did not find him. Upset, she later confronted him at his home, even after taking 400 cedis from him for transportation, money he said he had borrowed for her.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Esther Nana Afia Sarfowaa, identified as the woman in the viral video, at Subriso in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency.
Another suspect, Stephen Ofori, was picked up at Nkawie for his role in the assault. Both are in custody and assisting investigators, while officers continue their search for three others still on the run.
