Sunyani — The younger brother of the late John Achuliwor, Abdullah Achuliwor, has indicated his preparedness to contest the Navrongo Central constituency seat as an independent candidate, despite the disciplinary measures adopted by his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sanction all members of the party who would be vying this year’s parliamentary election as independent candidates.
Mr. Achuliwor, in an interview with The Chronicle, said all materials to enable his campaign take off were ready and therefore there was no “U” turn in his decision to compete for the seat with the incumbent Member of Parliament(MP) for the area.
The independent MP aspirant said he would not be daunted by the sanctions planned by the leadership of the NPP.
He told the paper that he wanted to represent his people, because the people he was going to serve were more important than the party and if the NPP failed to recognize his importance in the party, he would not sit idle but have to go in to rescue his people.
The aspiring MP regretted that despite the promises by the NPP to allow all those interested to compete for the Navrongo Central parliamentary slot this year, he was disappointed.
According to Mr. Achuliwor, the NPP’s decision not to open nominations for aspiring MPs was not a welcomed one, because in a democratic party like the NPP, such a decision was not favorable.
He revealed to The Chronicle that after the death of his late brother, Mr. John Achuliwor, MP for the constituency, the leadership of the NPP advised him and others to step down for Mr. Kofi Adda, so that during this year’s election, nominations would be opened for them to file their nominations, but this could not materialize.
Following this decision, Mr. Achuliwor said he would no longer wait for anyone to tell him something.
He said, “I am going to win the seat, despite the caution of some executives of the party not to support my bid for the seat.”
Mr. Achuliwor told the paper that by the close of this month, he would launch his campaign at Navrango and he did not need any support from the executives, to win the election.
He told The Chronicle that the he would urge his fans to vote for any Presidential candidate of their choice, despite his earlier advice to let his supporters vote for President Kufuor.
