I Can Never Deny FONKAR & My Wife – JJ Tells Ghanaian Lens

The Office of Former President Jerry John Rawlings has reacted angrily to publications in the Ghanaian Lens newspaper that sought to suggest that he (Rawlings) had stabbed the wife in the back by distancing himself from ‘Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings’ (FONKAR), a pressure group fronting for and actively pushing for Mrs Rawlings to be the NDC’s flagbearer.

His Office is particularly unhappy at attempts by some mischievous elements to misrepresent a press statement he (Rawlings) issued on April 14 warning persons who are going around misinforming the electorate on matters concerning himself and the spouse.

In a statement issued today, Mr. Rawlings said he will not countenance the actions of persons who choose to deliberately skew his statements in a bid to score points with their political sponsors.

“Unless the author of the story and the editor of the Ghanaian Lens have reading problems, we have difficulty determining how they could insinuate that the statement had anything to do with FONKAR,” the statement added.
