Mr. Joseph Appiagyei, the Bono East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to protecting the region from unauthorized and unlawful tourism and hospitality activities. His aim is to elevate the standards of tourism and hospitality services to a higher level.
Mr. Appiagyei revealed that unauthorized tourism and hospitality establishments lead to financial losses for both the current government and the Tourism Authority. Consequently, he has resolved to eliminate such entities from the system to uphold the integrity and sustainability of the local tourism industry. He is dedicated to ensuring that all services provided are in full compliance with established legal standards and ethical practices, thereby creating a conducive and hygienic environment for visitors.
He emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding both the cultural heritage and the economic interests of the community by preventing activities that may jeopardize the authentic and lawful experiences that tourists deserve.
Mr. Joseph Appiagyei revealed that his organization has conducted extensive tours of nearly all tourism and hospitality establishments within the Bono East region over the past two weeks. The purpose of these visits was to ensure that proper practices are being implemented.
He conveyed concerns regarding the substandard service delivery observed in approximately twelve hotels within the region, attributing this issue to the absence of regulatory standards. Furthermore, he emphasized that he has initiated measures to address and eliminate all illegal operations within the tourism and hospitality sector in the region.
