Hon. Dzamesi Sharply Replies Agambila

The call by Dr. Gheysika Adambire Agambila, former Deputy Minister of State under President John Agyekum Kufuor, for NPP presidential aspirant, Alan John Kyerematen to quit the party’s flagbearership race and throw his weight behind Nana Addo has drawn a sharp response from another former minister, Hon. Kofi Dzamesi. Hon Dzamesi was the former Volta Regional Minister in the erstwhile NPP government.

According to Hon. Dzamesi, “it seems that Dr. Agambila doesn’t understand democracy. On what basis is he calling for Alan to give way to Nana Addo? In 1998, even after Kufour had run in 1996, it was Nana Addo who vigorously challenged Kufour up to the Sunyani congress. Why didn’t Nana give way to Kufour then?

“In any event, it is important to point out that whereas Kufour became a flag bearer while we were in opposition, which meant he was yet to be introduced to the general electorate for the 1996 election, Nana has faced the electorate in 2008 while we enjoyed incumbency and sent us into opposition. It implies that we need a more favorable candidate than Nana.”

“Alan appeals to voters than Nana and his popularity will definitely carry us (NPP) back to power in 2012. And let no one be mistaken, we want to win power from the NDC in 2012.”
