Hohoe Municipality distributes livestock to farmers

Hohoe, Aug 4, GNA – The Hohoe Municipal Assembly and with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has distributed 600 ewes to 60 livestock farmers in the Municipality at a brief ceremony.

The project, under the livestock credit-in-kind scheme, seeks to reduce poverty, improve food security and reduce the importation of livestock and its products into the country.

It is a government of Ghana and African Development Bank (AfDB) collaboration.

Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said the gesture was part of the “Better Ghana” outline towards wealth and income generation for a guaranteed food security.

He assured the farmers of continuous government support and advised them to work extra hard for the sustenance and realization of the full potential of the programme.

Mr Geoffrey Honu, Hohoe Municipal Director of MOFA, said seven regions involving 35 districts would benefit from the scheme.

He reminded the farmers that, as a pass-on programme, 10 ewes would be retrieved from beneficiary livestock farmers and given to another batch of 60 after a two-year period.

Mr Maxwell Titriku, a beneficiary, thanked the stakeholders for their gesture, pledging on his colleague’s behalf to strive for the success of the scheme.
