Ho teachers on strike

Ho, Oct. 02, GNA – Basic School Teachers in the Ho Municipality are on strike to back demands for a “special” allowance that was promised them.

In a telephone interview, Madam Mary Adzovia, Assistant Regional allowance, which was agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding to be paid at the end of October.

She said her outfit explained the delay being due to problems at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and therefore could not understand why the teachers decided to go on strike. Attempts to talk to the Ghana Education Service Municipal Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, teachers at Hohoe are also on strike, the GNA has learnt.

Mr Humphrey Danso, Hohoe District GNAT Secretary, who spoke with the GNA from a hideout, confirmed the strike action. He said he had decided to go into hiding to avoid attacks by some aggrieved teachers who accused him of interceding on behalf of government and was not telling them the truth.
