HIV and AIDS campaign not yet won-Affail Monney

Mr Affail Monney, Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Monday urged the media to continue to champion the campaign against HIV and AIDS.

“Just use a fraction of the power you wield to help reduce HIV infection,” he said.

Mr Monney gave the exhortation at a three-day HIV and AIDS capacity building workshop for media practitioners in the Volta Region at Ho.

He urged journalists to go beyond surface reporting and “dig” to come out with comprehensive reports on HIV.

“Flag topical issues and follow them so they make positive impact on society,” Mr Monney advised.

He asked journalists to avoid sensationalism in HIV related issues because it could inflict more physical pain and psychological distress on people living with HIV.

“Be ethical, avoid being judgmental and know that sensationalism is a serious offence in journalism,” Mr Monney stated.

He said rather, journalists’ reportage should give hope to people living with HIV.
