Saltpond (C/R), Feb. 23, GNA – Participants at a Review meeting on the impact of HIV/AIDS peer educators at Saltpond, has called on government to provide voluntary counselling and testing apparatus in the rural communities for people who want to know their HIV/AIDS status.
The meeting acknowledged that the awareness education on the pandemic being supported by the Ghana AIDS Commission should be complement with care and support services for People Living With AIDS (PLWAS).
The meeting, which was organised by FED Kastle Promtions, a Salpond-based Non-governmental organisation, identified stigmatisation of the PLWAS as the greatest hindrance to the efforts to curb the spread of the virus and exhorted society to treat people affected by the pandemic with love and care.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Mr Francis Ejaaku Donkoh appealed to chiefs, members of the district assemblies and the unit committees to mobilise resources to support the activities of HIV/AIDS peer educators who are working very hard to halt the spread of the virus.
He asked the people to be proactive in mobilising funds to stem the spread of HIV/AIDS instead of over-relying on government support.
