High Court jails two convicted armed robbers

Sekondi June 3, GNA – A Sekondi High Court on Wednesday sentenced convicted armed robbers; Jallo Ibrahim and Kwaku Abeiku, to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour each for conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escaping from lawful custody.

The accused convicts who were among seven other convicted armed robbers being trialled by the court for breaking jail at the Sekondi Central Prisons on May 2 this year, pleaded guilty. The Court presided over by Mr Justice Robin Batu, a Supervising High Court Judge, would pass sentence on the remaining five convicts who have also been charged with conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escaping from lawful custody as well as conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery on June 8.

They are Mohammed Issa, Raphael Lawoe, Mohamadu Gariba, Ebenezer Okorley Tetteh and Gariba Amadu. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges. Earlier, seven witnesses including four prison officers and Mohammed Awal, a prisoner, serving a 12 year sentence for stealing had given evidence.

Francis Nti, the driver whose vehicle was taken over by the jail breakers to escape after shooting him in the ankle and Daniel Awudu Towah whose car was also seized and his wife, Afisatu Towah also gave evidence.
