Herbalist jailed for possessing drugs unlawfully

Kumasi, Sept. 1, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court has jailed a Kumasi-based herbalist for ten years for possessing a quantity of cannabis without lawful authority.

Baba Yidana pleaded guilty to the charge.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the Court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P Amedior that on March 18, 2010, at about 1500 hours, personnel from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service upon a tip-off proceeded to the house of the convict at Sofoline in Kumasi and arrested him.

A search conducted at his house uncovered a five-kilo fertilizer sack containing 26 wrappers of the leaves.

The exhibit weighing 149 grammes was sent to the Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination and it tested positive.

Upon the advice of the Attorney General’s Department, Baba Yidana was arraigned.
