Mampong (Ash), Sept. 15, GNA – Results of a research into the effect of a herbal preparation called “MJ Goldoni” have shown that it could reverse the health status of HIV/AIDS patients.
Mr Jacob Amoah, a Pharmacist and Dr George Acquah, both of the Asante-Manpong District Hospital conducted the research. Mr Amoah said this at a two-day anti-HIV/AIDS workshop for 150 students of the Mampong Campus of the University of Education (UEW) at the weekend.
He said the research was conducted in October 2001 at Obuasi where 30 medically confirmed HIV/AIDS positive patients randomly selected were given the herbal preparation for six months.
Mr Amoah said with the exception of two of the patients, one of whom died within six months from natural causes and the other from misapplication of the preparation, the remaining 28 had their status improved and had remained in that state to date.
He cautioned, however, that the product was specific to Ghana’s strain of the virus and that the same could not be said for other strains of the virus outside the country.
Mr Amoah said due to financial constraints, they could not carry out viral load analysis after which the product could be quantified and replicated elsewhere.
He said another research they conducted at Obuasi showed that 10 per cent of married people living with HIV/AIDS had spouses, who were HIV negative.
Explaining the result, he said, the 10 per cent spouses tested negative because their natural barriers, the male and female organs were not lacerated due to the practice of proper sex, which is characterise by enough lubrication.
Mr Amoah said if combined with natural barrier concepts that emphasised on the control of sexually transmitted diseases and empowering people to eat well, the product would drastically reduce the current high rate of the spread of the pandemic.
