The Fast Track Court has began hearing a case brought against the Treasurer of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Sherry Ayittey who is accused of accepting a bribe to influence a divestiture process. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Osafo Sampong withdrew the case, which was initially taken to an Accra Circuit Tribunal to enable him put it on Fast Track.
The case was withdrawn from the Circuit tribunal on Thursday, shortly after which the accused was arraigned before the Fast Track Court. Sherry Ayittey who was a former member of the Board of the Divestiture Implementation Committee is alleged to have accepted $820,000 and 25 million Cedis as her reward for influencing the divestiture of Ghana Rubber Estates Limited.
Jointly charged with Madam Ayittey are Sati Ocran of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Ralph Casely- Hayford, an Engineer and the former Chief Executive of the Divestiture Implementation Committee, E. A. Agbodo. They all pleaded not guilty and are on bail.
