Health workers on strike at Effia-Nkwanta

Sekondi May 4, GNA – Health workers at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital on Thursday began a strike action in demand for correction of disparities in salaries in the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr. Micah Asare Bediako, Head of Administration of the Hospital, told the GNA in an interview at Sekondi.

He said the authorities of the hospital held an emergency meeting with unit heads and workers’ leaders to negotiate with them to rescind their decision but this were not successful.

Mr. Bediako said the unit heads and the leaders, however, agreed that key facilities such as the casualty department, kitchen and the blood bank continue to operate and patients on admission at the wards be taken care of.

He said there are health workers on duty to handle emergency cases but the main outpatient department is not operating.
