Head teachers use capitation grant for refreshment

Begoro, Sept. 6. GNA – The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Ms Mary Animwah, on Thursday warned head teachers who spent greater portions of their Capitation Grant on refreshment at SMC/PTA meetings to stop forthwith or be made to refund those monies.

Speaking at a day’s meeting of beneficiaries of GAIT II project at Begoro, Ms Animwah said reports indicated that some head teachers spent more money on refreshment at SMA/PTA meetings at the expense of other educational issues while others also misapplied the grant. She said minor repairs on school buildings had been neglected rendering those classrooms as “hotels” at night for the youth to engage in social vices.

Ms Animwah appealed to executives of SMC/PTAs to monitor the school performance improvement plans against the capitation grants before appending their signature to help combat embezzlement and misapplication of the grant by head teachers.
