Hassan Ayariga threatens to quit PNC if…

The 2012 Flagbearer of the Peoples National Convention, Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has threatened to leave the party if the current crop of executives are retained by after the party’s national congress.

Dr. Ayariga who says he will not lead the party in the 2016 elections accused the current executives of working for other parties other than the PNC, noting they have been propagating the aganda of other political parties at the least opportunity they get.

He claimed none of the executives supported his campaign in the 2012 presidential election, saying “If there is no unity, there is no party. All these people sitting by me [reference to the executives], look at them, the fact is that they are not united.”

Dr. Ayariga who was addressing delegates at the Ashanti Regional congress of the party in Kumasi on Wednesday said because the executives are not united, the party has been going down, adding “because there is no unity, your party is not progressing”

However, Atik Mohammed who is aspiring for the General Secretary position of the party has described Mr. Ayariga’s accusation as “objectionable fallacy”, pointing out that if Dr. Ayariga is “troubled, I don’t see why he should be and if the claim is that some executives did not work with him, the question is, did he work for himself?”

“Whatever it is… we [PNC] are ready and very encouraged to get a set of leaders who are more than willing and committed to move the agenda of the PNC forward,” he said.

He said he has always been playing the role of an opposition, stating “I started lambasting NPP way back in my days as a student activist [and] when I became active politician, I have continued”.
