Half Assini hospital records three cholera cases

The Half Assini Government Hospital has recorded three cholera cases this month following hospitalization of three sisters.

They are Rita Kweiku, Georgina Kweiku and Mary Kweiku.

Ms. Matilda Okata, General Staff Nurse, told the GNA that the three were admitted October 15 and October 22.

Ms Okata said Georgina was first to be brought to the facility and was discharged three days later. Rita who was caring for her was also infected and was admitted on October 17 followed by Mary on October 18.

She said investigations conducted by facility over the issue revealed that the victims were among seven family members including their father Mr. Kabenlah who developed the disease at a funeral at Breman near Elmina in the Central Region the previous week.

Ms Okata said a team from the Hospital visited Ahobre II and last Saturday and disinfected about 200 people in the neighborhood to avoid the disease spreading in the community.

Speaking to GNA at Ahobre, Rita said all those who ate food prepared by a particular woman during the funeral developed stomach upset the next day.

She said two children who were not taken hospital immediately died the following day.
