Gyereso teacher falls unconscious after severe assault

Tanodumase (Ash), March 15, GNA – A teacher at the Gyereso Junior Secondary School (JSS) was last Friday, rushed to the Tanodumase Anglican Health centre unconscious after being severely assaulted by a group of Muslims at Tanodumase in the Atwima Mponua District.

Mr Francis Abonten, the teacher, was assaulted during an inter-schools zonal gala final match between Gyereso Local Authority Primary and Tanodumase Islamic primary school at Tanodumase. According to Mr Owusu Bempeh, the headteacher of Gyereso Basic School, his side was leading 2-0 when supporters of the Islamic school rushed to the field.

He said in a bid to assist restore sanity to allow the match to continue, Mr Abonten unintentionally hurt one of the pupils. This, Mr Bempe said, infuriated the victim’s father who pounced on the teacher and with the support of other Muslim colleagues, beat him up until he became unconscious.

The case was therefore reported to the Nyinahin police.
