GWSC pumping engine breaks down

Elubo(W/R), Dec 14, GNA- The Elubo Border Post Health Superintendent, Mr Frank Asirifi-Banayeh, has cautioned residents of Elubo and its environs to try as much as possible to always boil their drinking water to save them from water borne diseases.

He explained that water that has not rpt not been boiled is unsafe for human consumption. Mr Asirifi-Banayeh gave the caution when speaking at a public forum organised by health authorities at the Elubo border for chop bar/drinking bars operators, market women and foodstuffs sellers. His topic was “good drinking water for health and longevity”

The forum organised to draw attention to the use of unsafe water following the break-down of the pumping engine at the Ghana Water Company (GWSC) at Elubo, two weeks ago. Mr Asirifi-Banayeh asked the people to stop defecating along the banks of River Tano, the major source of water for the inhabitants.

He regretted that in some cases the people, particularly children, who go to fetch water from the river deliberately ease themselves into it. He therefore asked the residents to form watchdog groups to help check such unhealthy and shameful acts which could cause an epidemic in the area.

The port health superintendent advised the people to immediately report at the hospitals and clinics when they are in a poor state of health stressing that they should avoid self-medication. GNA
