GWCL restores to Swedru hospital and other communities

Agona Swedru, June 30, GNA – Water supply has been restored to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, Swedru Secondary School and other nearby communities following the disconnected, by the Ghana Water Company (GWCL). The Company had to disconnect during the recent flooding of the area following the damage to the main pipe line that supply water to the Municipality.

Mr Baffour-Addea, Agona West Municipal Manager of the Company made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru. He said the company restored the water to the health and educational facilities to avoid outbreak of epidemic in those areas. Mr Baffour-Addea said water has been restored to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior High School, and to the people of Gomoa Jukwa, Gomoa Ekwamkrom, Bungalow, Chapel Square, and other communities of the other side of the Municipality.

Mr Baffour-Addea said the people of Agona Asafo, new Kwansakrom, Kwanyako, Swedru School of Business, Atakwa, and Left Eye Spot, have started enjoying 24 hours of water supply. Meanwhile a new figure released by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to the newsmen on Wednesday, indicated that about 14,658 people were rendered homeless at Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom by the flood.

A continued heavy downpour in the Agona Municipality on June 20, 2010, caused havoc including the destruction of pipe lines and properties costing several thousands of Ghana Cedis, and rendering over 2,800 people homeless. Mr Baffour-Addea commended Mr Kweku Botwe Managing Director of (GWCL) and Mr A.A. Aryee, Central Regional Production Manager for their prompt effort to acquire materials and other logistics for the restoration of water to the Agona Swedru Municipality. The authorities of the Agona Swedru Government Hospital on Sunday, on June 27, appealed to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to restore water to the facility to relieve them of spending huge sums money to purchase water for operation. 30 June 10
