GUNA sensitises Ghanaians

Wa, May 22, GNA – The Ghana United Nations Association is embarking on a nation-wide sensitisation campaign to educate Ghanaians on the need to value and appreciate the relative peace and stability in the country. This is aimed at prompting individual Ghanaians to contribute their quota toward the sustenance of the peace they enjoy, instead of taking it for granted, Dr Mike Awuah Asamoah, National president of GUNA said. He was addressing the first bi-annual congress of the Upper West branch of the association at Wa on Sunday. It was under the theme: “Consolidating the relative peace, human rights and development; the role of GUNA”.

He said during the campaign, to be undertaken by all GUNA’s regional and district associations, the message will primarily focus on maintenance and sustenance of peace, respect for human rights, avoidance of conflicts and sustainable development.

Dr Asamoah said the campaign was the association’s modest contribution towards sustaining the peace and stability of the country. He announced that GUNA would be organizing an international forum on peace as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the country’s independence next year.

Mr William Baah, Principal Investigations Officer of the Wa regional office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, disclosed that the incidence of spousal violation was very high in the region adding that in some cases, widows were denied the possession of the bed they shared with their late husbands.
