Guinea to learn from Ghana

Ghana and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday signed an agreement to collaborate in the area of energy resource development and management.

The agreement was arrived at, after a three-day visit by an eight-member delegation from Equatorial Guinea led by its Secretary of State for Mines and Hydrocarbon, Gabriel Nguemalima to explore and find ways of promoting and deepening collaboration in the area of energy.

A communiqu? released to the GNA, after the visit by the Ministry of Energy said the team requested and their Ghanaian counterparts agreed to provide technical assistance in feasibility studies, development and operation and maintenance of hydro-power facilities.

Restructuring of the power sector with the objective of improving efficiency in the operation of the sector and also promote private sector participation, was also discussed.

The communiqu? said other areas, that were looked at, included design, development and implementation of rural electrification programmes and training of Equatorial Guinea nationals in the operation of power facilities.

Mr. Kobina T. Hammond, Deputy Minister for Energy, who signed for Ghana noted that Ghana and Equatorial Guinea have enjoyed fraternal relations since Tetteh Quarshie brought cocoa to Ghana from that country.

He said Ghana would do all it could to provide the necessary expertise in hydro-power generation and distribution, which Equatorial Guinea needed.

Mr. Nguemalima said his country was desirous to learn from Ghana’s experience in hydro-power generation and distribution.

The delegation has since left for home.
