Unionised workers at the state-owned Graphic Communications Group are threatening to go on strike in protest at what they say are low salaries paid them.
The workers are demanding a 70 percent increase in salaries but management say they can only increase the salaries by 30 percent, which the workers have labelled an insult.
A meeting is scheduled between the two groups tomorrow. The Public affairs manager of the company Albert Sam says he is hopeful the standoff would be resolved at tomorrow’s meeting to avert the strike action.
The workers are unhappy that certain benefits paid them in the past are no longer paid. They also say the company’s management is spending lavishly on cars running up to a million cedis each while only fourteen of the 500 work force earn basic salaries above 2 million cedis.
When Joy News team visited the offices of the company this morning the workers were seen in mourning clothes with red armbands to signify their displeasure. Sources close to the union leaders say they will decide on their next action if tomorrow’s meeting with management fails to yield the desired response. None of the top managers was available for comment.
