Graduates urged to go into farming to curb unemployment

Tamale, Dec. 10, GNA – Mr. Aboko Akudugu, Head the HND Secretaryship and Management Studies, Tamale Polytechnic, has urged polytechnic graduates to venture into farming to improve the country’s food stocks. He said when graduates venture into farming, it would attract other unemployed youths to the sector.

Mr. Akudugu was addressing students from the second-circle and tertiary institutions on Friday in Tamale on their career opportunities. The forum was organised by the National Secretariat of the Association of HND Secretaryship and Management Students (AHSMAS).

Mr. Akudugu noted that farming was the source of livelihood for mankind yet the youth do not want to venture into the sector despite the high unemployment situation in the country. He stressed that it would be an economic booster to the government if people, especially the unemployed

graduates of the polytechnics and the universities resort to farming. He extolled Ghanaian farmers for their tremendous contribution to the socio-economic growth of the country. He observed that the country could achieve rural transformation through farming and appealed to the government to support the Ghanaian farmer with cheaper farm inputs and enhanced storage facilities. Madam Sophia Ayaric, a Lecturer of the Department, urged students to diversify their priorities to meet the demands of the job market. She encouraged them to inculcate the habit of entrepreneurship and skills training.
