GPRTU members arrested by Madina Police for assault

Accra, July 16, GNA – Two members of the Madina-Akwapim branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have been arrested by the Madina Police for allegedly assaulting Mr Mahama Sanie, a Station Master of the Madina branch of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), in Accra.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amoako of the Madina District Police Headquarters speaking to the GNA said Mr Sani was attacked and injured by the two in an attempt to stop members PROTOA from operating at the Madina lorry park.

He named the suspects as Kwesi Tiah and Daniel Atsu Agbleto while their accomplice Nyakiaya Kpangah is on the run. ASP Amoako said on July 8 this year, the same GPRTU members at the lorry park also attacked Mr Sumanu Mohamed a porter of PROTOA. The District Commander said Mr Sani was installing a Public Address System at the section of PROTOA at the lorry Park when the GPRTU members pounced on him and inflicted a deep cut on his forehead and other of parts of his body.

According to ASP Amoako, Mr Sani was rushed to Legon Hospital where he was treated and discharged. He said the two in Police grips would be put before court when investigations are completed.
