Gov’t okays ‘Political Campaign Funding Bill’

Government has accepted a recommendation of the Judgement Debt Commission to let Parliament pass a bill to regulate the funding of political party campaigns in the country.

To be christened the ‘Political Campaign Funding Bill’, the bill is expected to “prevent the situation in which the funding of political activities and election campaigns has become a major source of corruption”.

The passing of the bill is one of the recommendations proffered in the White Paper released by the Attorney General on the report of Commission chaired by now Supreme Court Judge, Justice Yaw Apau.

It is one of the recommendations accepted with modifications.

The White Paper noted that the bill would be modified in order to “prevent corruption in political activities generally (both ruling and opposition parties), and not just corruption in public office”.
