Government will not renege on campaign promises – Ms Koomson

Ms Ophelia Koomson, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has assured rural communities that the government will not renege on its campaign promises.

“The government and the Municipal Assembly will continue to provide you with good drinking water, accessible roads and supply of electricity among others to ensure that you live in dignity”.

Ms Koomson said this while inaugurating market sheds at Akyem Bantama and Osenho in separate ceremonies on Monday.

She said government would not deny them their share of the national cake adding that the National Democratic Congress government has a track record of promoting development.

Ms Koomson implored the people to honour their part of the bargain by taking active part in communal labour on self-help projects in their areas to help reduce the cost in financing those projects.

The MCE challenged rural communities to initiate more self-help projects on their own for the government to come to their aid, adding that “with the increase in population coupled with the strain on the national budget, it would be difficult for the central government to satisfy communities with all their needs”.

Ms Koomson said there was the need for the people to live in peace at all times and avoid chieftaincy disputes and all acts that stifle development.

She urged all to be ambassadors of national unity in the various communities, saying “our interaction with other members of the public should emphasize national unity and the need for us to safeguard peace and democracy”.

Ms Koomson said it was equally important for parents to invest heavily in their children’s education saying “Cocoa farms can get burnt, but quality education to your child is an investment forever”.
