Government urged to improve teachers’ service conditions

Wenchi (B/A), March 19, GNA – Mr. T.E.K. Hassan, an Assistant Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Wenchi has appealed to the Government to improve the conditions of service for teachers, to help retain those still in the service.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wenchi, Mr. Hassan said the rate at which Ghanaian teachers were leaving the service to seek “greener pastures,” was very alarming.

He urged government to introduce such packages as risk allowance for teachers in very remote areas, overtime allowance and other fringe benefits like car, and the payment of hospital bills for teachers as a way of motivating them and retaining those still in the service.
