Government to resource Fire Service

Fijai, Nov. 9, GNA – Ms Betty Bosomtwi-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister said government was determined to resource the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to enable it to fulfil its mandate to fight and prevent fire. Speaking at the inauguration of the Fire Service Ladies Association, at Fijai at the weekend she said disaster management and prevention should be the collective responsibility of society. Ms Bosomtwi-Sam therefore urged the women to be committed to duty and eschew pettiness.

Ms fanny Simpson, President of the Association said it was formed some 16 years ago to champion the course of women in the service and educate them in ensuring that unity was maintained to propagate the operational functions of the GNFS.

She asked the public to adhere strictly to fire prevention tips, adding that government’s development agenda would not be fulfilled if the environment is not protected from the ravages of fire. Ms Simpson said the GNFS recognised the harmful effects of rampant fire outbreaks on the country’s investment drive.
