Government to establish mechanised centres – Debrah

Accra, Dec 2, GNA – Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Ernest Debrah said the Government would establish mechanised centres with private sector participation to allow farmers to have access to modern machines to till their lands for a fee. He said the Government had received tremendous response from the private sector for the scheme and would pursue it until farmers refrained from the use of cutlass and hoes with its associated drudgery. Government is to invest in small irrigation equipment to enable farmers to acquire them for use. Mr Debrah said the Government would bear the investment cost of the equipment while farmers would be tasked with its management and maintenance.
