Government to construct more bridges at Dome

Accra, Aug 2, GNA- Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, said government would construct more bridges at Dome in Accra to ease flooding in the area. He observed that most of the bridges were too small to allow the free flow of rainwater resulting in flooding.

Alhaji Abubakar Saddique disclosed this to the GNA on Friday during a tour of the township to observe the drainage system following a downpour that resulted in serious flooding the previous day. He said such a problem could have been averted if there had been collaboration between the Highways Authority and the Feeder Roads Department to ensure the building of appropriate bridges for the township.

Alhaji Abubakar Saddique asked residents who would desire to construct bridges through self-help to contact the relevant authorities for technical advice.

He cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters and building of structures in waterways to avoid flooding. Alhaji Abubakar Saddique was taken round the township by Professor Mike Ocquaye, Member of Parliament for the area,
