Government in Talks with 13 Countries to Export Nurses – Health Minister

The Minister of Health has disclosed that the government is currently in negotiations with thirteen countries to export Ghanaian nurses to work abroad.

According to him, this move forms part of efforts to address the backlog of qualified nurses and midwives who have remained unemployed since 2020.

The Minister revealed this during a visit to the Sefwi Wiawso Nurses and Midwifery College in the Western North Regional capital, Sefwi Wiawso.

He explained that the agreements, when finalised, would create opportunities for Ghanaian nurses to gain international exposure and ease the pressure of limited job placements locally.

“We have a huge backlog of nurses from 2020 who are still waiting for employment. The government is negotiating with 13 countries to export our nurses, and once these agreements are signed, it will open doors for many of our health professionals,” he stated.

He further assured the students and staff of the college that the government remains committed to expanding local employment opportunities in the health sector while exploring international partnerships to absorb the surplus.

The Minister adds that the government will support fifteen nursing and midwifery tutors to pursue their PHD annually.
