Government didn’t ‘sabotage’ Bawumia – Bombande

The government had nothing to do with the Accra International Conference Center’s (AICC) refusal in allowing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential nominee Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to deliver a lecture at its facility, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Dr Emmanuel Bombande has denied.

He told Moro Awudu on Inside Politics on Wednesday September 7 on Class 91.3FM in an interview that the government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had no interest in dabbling in such ‘petty’ politics.

‘Why would we do that?’ he asked in response to insinuations by Dr Bawumia’s spokesperson Anthony Karbo that the government might have been behind the development.

Dr Bombande said rather than stifling the NPP vice presidential nominee, the government and the NDC were rather interested in hearing what their opponents have to say as the country heads towards the December polls.

The AICC on Wednesday September 7 turned down a request to use its premises for a lecture to be delivered by the vice presidential nominee of the NPP barely 24 hours to the arranged date.

Despite the setback, the NPP said the lecture which is on the theme: ‘The State of the Ghanaian Economy – A Foundation of Concrete or Straw’ will come off as schedule at the National Theater instead.
