Government committed to promotion of basic education

Obuasi (Ash), Sept 21, GNA – Mr Joe Boampong, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the promotion of basic education in the country.

Mr Boampong said the introduction of the capitation grant and the school-feeding programme were positive signs of the government’s attention to basic education.

“It is the determination of government to create an ideal environment for the improvement of basic education in the country”, he stressed.

Mr Boampong said these at the celebration of “My First Day at School” at the Bidiem Experimental Primary School at Bidiem, a suburb of Obuasi.

The celebration saw the Municipal Chief Executive interacting with more than 40 primary one pupils, most of whom expressed their desire to be policemen, soldiers, nurses, school teachers, doctors and mine workers.

He announced that a jubilee school for the municipality to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ghana’s independence would be built soon.

The Municipal Chief Executive, who feted the pupils with drinks and hats with the inscription “My first day at school”, advised them to be obedient, disciplined and respectful.

Mr Boampong advised them to develop interest in school to enable them to realise their future dream and become assets to the nation. He said the celebration of the day was to motivate the pupils not only to attend school regularly, but also to encourage others to attend school.

Mrs Hagar Enyan, the headteacher of the school and Nana Ofori Bonah, chief of Bidiem, praised the Municipal Chief Executive and the assembly for the decision to build a junior secondary school for the community.
