Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts at the weekend reassured Ghanaians that President John Mahama is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises at the expiration of his tenure in 2016. She therefore urged the populace to exhibit maximum patience as modalities for the commencement of projects yet to be started is finalized.
Mrs Ofosu-Agyare gave the assurance at the climax of 80th anniversary celebrations of Have rpt Have Agadevi festival, under the theme, “Agadevi at 80: Our Citizenship and Development- A Shared Responsibility.”
Agadevi was institutionalised in 1933, when an unprecedented landslide calamity occurred on the Have segment of the Akwapim-Togo ranges without the community registrating any casualty and this event has since redefined and became the rallying point for socio-cultural development of the people.
The Minister said government would redeem “Every single pledge” including those of a construction of a hospital at Have. She indicated as part of the “Better Ghana” agenda development strategy a new Police station to guarantee the safety of the people would be constructed by the end of this year, as some work has already be started.
Mrs Ofosu-Agyare said some feeder and link roads in the area are being reshaped to make accessibility and layout easy are some practically visible responses from government. She commended the fore bearers of the festival and the citizens of Have for maintaining the socio-cultural heritage, which is still relevant to nation building efforts.
Togbega Asemtsyra, Paramount Chief of Have Traditional Area, in an address read for him by Togbe Gbadago Karekare, right-wing chief called on citizens, the Afadzato South District, philanthropists and corporate entities to come to their aid towards the completion of the community library project, town hall and office for the traditional council.
He said it was necessary a health facility was sited at Have as the distance between the Peki and Hohoe hospitals on the main Accra-Hohoe highway was quite far. Togbega Asemtsyra urged the people to remain steadfast about the development agenda of the area and foster unity at all times.
Reverend Dr S. S. Agidi, Chairman of the Planning Committee giving a historical narration said the rocks and boulders, which fell was quarried and utilised in the construction of the main Accra-Hohoe highway with remnants still available to explore. He said the festival continue to rekindle the communal bonding of the citizens and a platform for merry-making, sharing and harnessing resources for development.
