Government business has kicked off briskly after the Christmas and New Year holidays Ghana News Agency observed on Wednesday, the first official working day of 2013.
Most workers at the Ministries, Departments and Agencies were noticed at post going through files and documents whilst others were engaged in front of their computers.
Some were seen discussing the New Year festivities and their expectations for 2013, whilst others were apprehensive about “who becomes their minister”.
A senior Officer at the Ministry of Science and Environment said: “my Prayer is that the President John Dramani Mahama will appoint a progressive person as our Minister.
“The current Minister has done a lot for us and we hope that whoever assumes the mantle of leadership will continue to pursue pragmatic programmes for the science and environment sector”.
Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, the Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, described 2013 as the beginning of new and better things to come.
He said the next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama is poised to transform the nation.
Mr Mensah said: “The New Year should bring an end to Election 2012 electioneering campaign, now we Ghanaians should move together in unity for accelerated development and growth”.
He said it was important for all to move from the political season to an effective working season in order to improve productivity.
Mr Mensah commended Ghanaian workers for their contribution to the development of the country and assured that the government would continue to work and pursue policies that would improve the lot of the worker.
A section of the workers the GNA spoke to said although God had really been good to them, their families, as well as their colleges at work, they pray God would continue to protect them in the New Year, and make their work prosperous like never before.
A clerk at the Ministry of Health expressed thanks to God and pledged to continue to work hard in 2013 and expressed the hope that things would be much better for workers across the country this year.
He said: “As workers we will put in our best for mother Ghana, we pray that our leaders, especially the new administration, would also seek the interest of workers”.
A Principal Accountant at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department said 2012 was a great year and workers expected 2013 would be better and “everything in our working lives as well as our family and social lives will improve beyond expectation.”
